Rachel Verney, Manager of Central Services, talks about how she has used Yammer as a tool for the Kingston CAB’s Pro Bono legal advice project.
Tell us a bit about yourself. (Your job, organisation, and your technical ability!)
My job is ensuring the smooth running of the office systems at a busy Bureau.
Why did you look for this tool in the first place? What did you need help with?
Good communication is vital in the Bureau, that’s why Yammer is so good. It is a brilliant way for us to keep abreast of what everyone is doing internally, with updates that are similar to Facebook. You can set up different groups, so we have been able to sue it as both an internal communication tool as well as for collaborative working - such as on our Pro Bono legal advice project.
What is this tool mainly used for?
Yammer has been excellent for the work on our pro bono project, all the providers are members and we post appointments in the relevant group for the solicitor to pick up. This means that admin is kept to a minimum for all parties and the client gets a really good service. It is a confidential, members only network and it is quick and easy to share ideas and troubleshooting.
What do YOU use it for?
I use Yammer daily for our own KCABS Senior Management updates so that I am aware of what my colleagues are working on, as well checking the pro bono project is running smoothly.
What have been the benefits of using this tool?
It's a free tool which has assisted communication in this project.
Did this tool need much of your or a colleague’s time to set up at the beginning?
This tool was incredibly easy to set up by simply registering. We then invited individuals to the relevant groups which we had created.
Do you have any top tips for using this tool?
The Desktop Application is a useful tool.
