Chris is Marketing and Communications Officer at UK online centres and uses Hootsuite to manage multiple social media accounts easily.
Why did you look for this tool in the first place? What did you need help with?
We needed a way to manage a busy Twitter presence with lots of different strands of activity.
We were finding that the person in charge of our social media was spending LOTS of time tweeting throughout the day, trawling the feed of the people we follow to make sure we didn’t miss anything relevant to us.
We set up lists of certain people we follow, separated by category, but in Twitter itself you have to go to a different screen every time you want see what that saved list of people are tweeting about.
We wanted a tool that would let us see all our different lists and feeds on one page and let us schedule tweets so we knew our messages were getting out there without spending all day tweeting.
How did you hear/find out about the tool?
Word of mouth really. When we were expanding our social media activities and it seemed to be the tool that most people were talking about and using.
What is this tool for?
It helps you manage all your social media activities on one ‘dashboard’. You can see your Twitter follower feed (as well as the feed for specific saved lists or search terms) and your Facebook activity and loads of others like LinkedIn or WordPress, all in one place.
What did/do you use it for?
It has loads of different features but we mainly use it for keeping a closer eye on our Twitter feed as well as what’s going on across different groups of tweeters. We also use if for scheduling tweets for later in the day or week.
Why has this tool been useful to you?
It’s great for us because we can schedule lots of tweets first thing in the morning meaning we’ve got a busy Twitter presence but can be getting on with other things at the same time.
It also makes it really easy to look at different feeds separately, so we can decide on a specific group of people and see tweets only from them, or choose a hashtag or search term and see all the tweets that include them in one list
What have been the benefits of using this tool to you?
Because we have relationships with lots of different groups, we can very easily focus in on tweeters we want to hear from at a particular time and filter out all the background chatter.
