Northampton & District C.A.B. combined dotMailer,Eventbrite and social media to target front line professionals

Martin Lord from Northampton & District C.A.B describes how they effectively approached front line professionals within third sector organisations to communicate important Welfare Reform messages.
Tell us a bit about yourself. (Your job, organisation, and your technical ability!) 
The aim of all Citizens Advice Bureaux is to provide the advice people need for the problems they face. The organisation values diversity,promotes equality and challenges discrimination and the advice given is impartial. Martin is technically competent as are his team, but nobody would rate their skills beyond a typical office scenario . All have found dotMailer straightforward to use.
Why did you look for this tool in the first place? What did you need help with? 
We needed to promote our services amongst professionals – many of whose details we had collected through our normal business over the years.
How did you find out about the tool? 
We were approached by a marketing company selling a “white labelled” email marketing product.
What is this tool mainly used for? 
dotMailer is an e mail marketing tool
What do YOU use it for? 
We first used this approach as part of communicating our relocation to new offices – but now use it with more sophistication – including sending out quarterly newsletters and also occasional communications. In particular we have used the tool very effectively to market financial capability sessions aimed at professionals working with vulnerable users and done so in combination with eventbrite – an event booking service. This proved incredible the first time we used it – with emails being sent in bulk and as many as 80 bookings received within a couple of days. Interestingly many of the bookings came from people not on our original mailing list.
What have been the benefits of using this tool? 
Time saved – it is much quicker and more effective than any other method we have looked at. It also looks professional, which helps ensure that the message is read.
Is there any cost attached to using this tool? 
Our Email marketing spend is about £40 per month all in , which can be offset when used with Eventbrite for a fee charging event. As you will see within the video attached we started out offering free Welfare Reform seminars , which quickly became oversubscribed and organisations are now paying for bespoke in house sessions.

There are a number of dotMailer tutorials on youtube
Did this tool need much of your or a colleague’s time to set up at the beginning? 
It took a day to get to grips with it initially.
Are there any limitations to using this tool? 
Not that we are aware of.
Do you have any top tips for using this tool? 
Use it as a marketing tool to constantly refine and improve your mailings.
Do you have any other recommendations of digital tools you use, and what you use them for? 
dotmailer works very effectively with Eventbrite.
