The Cathedral Archer Project and

The Cathedral Archer Project is a day centre for homeless adults, offering crisis support, medical support and move on opportunities. Tracy Viner tells us how The Cathedral Archer Project has used Justgiving to help with fundraising activity.

Why did you look for this tool in the first place? What did you need help with?
A way to have online giving on our website when we first set it up 4 years ago. We needed a cost effective way of people making online donations without us having to manage it.

How did you find out about the tool?
Just knew about it from using it, had been wary of costs but did some research.

What is this tool for?
An easy way to receive donations online, for sponsorship for individuals that want to support your charity through organised events or their own activities.

What do you use it for?
Online donations, event sponsorship. It has made the biggest difference to our sleep out event, This event takes people out of their comfort zone, they are sponsored to sleep outside in the
city centre on the Cathedral forecourt with just sleeping bags to protect them from the elements.

Each of the participants having their own justgiving page. I can see at a glance how much each person has raised, the gift aid contribution and the success of the event itself.

Just giving also offers a textgiving service, which is easy to set up and use. Anyone setting up a page can add this as a giving option. We used it recently for our event and tweeted the text code, making it easy for people to respond and donate if they didn’t have computer access to donate online.

Why has this tool been useful to you?
Anyone wanting to raise funds for the Cathedral Archer project can do so easily and at no cost to themselves, just by setting up a justgiving page.

What have been the benefits of using this tool to you?
This has been really useful as it means we receive the sponsorship and gift aid the month after it’s donated rather than waiting for people to have to chase, sort it out and send it in.

Is there any cost attached to using this tool?
There is a monthly subscription fee + VAT. It costs £15/month + VAT plus 5% fee on each donation. It is quite costly but people use it and it means that we get the income rather than missing out altogether.

Are there any online tutorials available?
Yes, the online support is excellent. Everything is clearly signposted on the justgiving website at

How long did it take you to set it up?
I had to fill in a form and wait for them to come back to me – about a week but I think it is much
faster now.

Are there any limitations to using this tool?
Some people don’t like justgiving and some people have limited internet access.

Do you have any top tips for using this tool?
Make sure you have a widget on your own website so people can donate on every page.
Promote justgiving to everyone organising or participating in events to raise money for you.

Do you have any other recommendations of tools that could help you do something similar?
